Digestive Health Tips To Avoid Flatulence
We all have a certain level of good bacteria in our digestive systems. These bacteria are absolutely necessary for our digestive health. They assist in the breaking down of complex sugars and the fermentation of food making it possible for our bodies to digest and absorb these sugars. However, the activity of these bacteria results in the formation of gas. This is passed out from the body through the rectum as flatulence. This is a normal part of the digestive process.
It is normal to pass flatulence between 10 - 18 times in a day. If your system is working properly, the primary gases passed should be odorless and harmless. The gases that smell usually result as byproducts of food intake.
If you are suffering from excessive flatulence, this may be a sign of poor digestive health. You can easily avoid excessive flatulence by taking the following simple measures:
1. Avoid milk and dairy products including medications that contain lactose. You may be lacking in the enzyme lactase which is necessary for the digestion of lactose.
2. Avoid vegetables like baked beans, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. The digestion of these vegetables results in a greater production of gas.
3. Avoid starches that are hard to digest such as corn, wheat, potatoes and oats. Eat rice instead.
